Dr. Kellen Adams Selected as Next USD 453 Superintendent

On Monday, March 6, the Leavenworth Board of Education selected Dr. Kellen Adams as the next Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Adams will start in Leavenworth on July 1, 2023, and prepare for a leadership transition in advance of the planned retirement of Dr. Mike Roth, effective January 1, 2024.

"My wife (Corinna) and I are both very excited to be moving to this amazing community and looking forward to being Pioneers.  We cannot wait to join the 453 Family and are already anxiously planning for our move and transition to our new home," said Dr. Adams.

Dr. Kellen Adams is currently in his fourth year as Superintendent of USD 413 (Chanute). He was one of four finalists to interview for the position of Superintendent of Schools for Leavenworth USD 453 between Monday, February 27, and Thursday, March 2.

Dr. Adams' educational career has spanned a total of 15 years, with 10 of those serving in building leadership and/or district administration. After teaching for five years in USD 489 (Hays), he began his administrative career in USD 326 (Logan) serving as the PreK-12 Principal for three years. His career path then led him to USD 490 (El Dorado) where he served three years as Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations, immediately prior to the last four years spent in Chanute, Kansas.

His undergraduate degree from Fort Hays State University, and graduate degrees from Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University included a focus on Educational Administration and School Finance. He has developed a passion for helping others to learn more about Kansas School Finance throughout his career.

Corinna Adams is currently a 3rd grade teacher in her 10th year in education. Kellen and Corinna are both avid college sports fans, and enjoy spending time outdoors with their two dogs, or attending various sporting events. Faith, family, and a love for public education are the primary focus of their time together.

"I'm looking forward to getting started working with the team, listening, and learning more about the history of the school community. The interview process was eye-opening regarding the truly amazing things that are already happening in the district. I'm elated about the possibility of being a part of something this powerful, and working tirelessly to provide a first-class education for Leavenworth students,” said Dr. Adams.
