Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When can families formally sign-up their children for In-Person, Rigorous Remote or K-8 Virtual School?

A: The district has created a Form (shared above) for each family to indicate their student’s desired learning model preference (In-Person, Rigorous Remote, or K-8 Virtual School).  For planning purposes, families are asked to complete this form no later than August 13; however, families that begin the year with the In-Person option will have the chance to complete the semester with Rigorous Remote if they believe that is in the best interest of their students.  The Virtual School is a parent-led, home-school environment with a different curriculum than the rest of USD 453 schools making it more challenging to transfer to In-Person learning for second semester.  Virtual School applicants will need to apply for this option, take a grade level assessment, and sign-off on attendance policy and expectations agreement for acceptance into the program.

USD 453 will begin the school year on Monday, August 24 with two weeks of a reduced building capacity schedule for In-Person/On-Site learners.

Q: What do I do if I have not made up my mind about this school year and have not enrolled my student(s) yet?

A: Regardless of which model is chosen, the first step for any family is to officially enroll in Leavenworth Public Schools. You can complete that process by contacting your child’s individual school or emailingenroll@lvpioneers.orgfor assistance.  Please include the full name and grade level for your student.

Q. What days will K-12 students attend classes for the 50% On-Site/In-Person days for the first two weeks (beginning August 24)? I have multiple children attending different schools throughout the district.

A: All students who are participating in On-Site/In-Person learning will have an opportunity to attend their school for a total of four days (two days during the week of August 24 and two days during the week of August 31) with some students attending on Monday and Wednesday and some on Tuesday and Thursday.

Students with last names beginning with the letters A-K will attend on Mondays/Wednesdays (8/24, 8/26, 8/31, 9/2); last names beginning with the letters L-Z will attend on Tuesdays/Thursdays (8/25, 8/27, 9/1, 9/3).  For blended families and/or students with different last names in the same household, please plan to attend on the L-Z Tuesday/Thursday schedule.

Students must be enrolled in the Leavenworth Unified School District before attending On-Site/In-Person instruction.  For families who are unsure if their child will participate in In-Person/On-Site versus Rigourous Remote learning, your child will have the option of starting In-Person and transitioning to Rigorous Remote for the remainder of the semester.
