Nominations for KSDE Horizon Award

Nominations for KSDE Horizon Award
Kansas school districts have the opportunity each fall to nominate one elementary teacher, and one secondary teacher, for the KSDE Horizon Award program.  This recognition program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, is for individuals who have successfully completed their first year of teaching at an exemplary level.

This week, the Superintendent made surprise visits to the schools of Nick Iannone (Third Avenue School at Nettie Hartnett, Adaptive P.E.) and Natasha Lucas (Richard Warren Middle School, language arts), informing them of their status as Leavenworth USD 453’s nominees for the 2019 Kansas Horizon Award.

The Kansas Horizon Award program is a regional competition, corresponding with the state’s four U.S. congressional districts.  Regional selection committees will select up to four elementary and four secondary teachers per region for a possible total of 32 teachers.  Those individuals will be recognized at the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network (KEEN) conference in Topeka on February 15, 2019.
