Wednesday, February 17, 2021 - No School (Potential Power Outages)
Due to the most up-to-date information we have received regarding the regional energy emergency alert, there is a strong likelihood for Level 2 or Level 3 morning conditions on Wednesday that would impact our ability to open school safely and without disruption. Unfortunately, the school district would not have advance warning if a power outage were to occur, or how long the duration would be before it would be restored.
Out of an abundance of caution, and recognizing we are also still experiencing extreme winter weather conditions, there will be No School for Leavenworth USD 453 students on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. This will be defined as a traditional Snow Day with no remote learning attendance requirements, as we encourage all families and staff members to limit their household power and electrical consumption.
USD 453 staff members, including all 12-month employees, will not be required to report to work.
Horizon Kids Before and After School will also be closed for the day.
Please plan accordingly for classes to resume on Thursday, February 18.

Leavenworth Board of Education - Special Meeting Summary
Wednesday, November, 18, 2020

On Wednesday evening, November 18, the Leavenworth Board of Education convened a Special Meeting to review updated gating criteria released by the Leavenworth County Health Department on Monday, November 16.  The data reflected a second consecutive week of "red" conditions due to increasing COVID-19 spread throughout the community.  Per board protocol established when the gating criteria was adopted in August, two consecutive weeks indicating a color change of either improved or declining conditions would result in a board meeting to review and consider impacts to planned operations.
Board action:
• The board voted 7-0 to authorize the Superintendent to close a school, and or schools, due to insufficient staffing levels.
• A motion to move the district to All-Remote learning for the remainder of the first semester failed on a 2-5 vote.

As a result, the Leavenworth USD 453 school calendar will continue as scheduled for all in-person learning and activities, with continuation of all adopted safety protocols (e.g. masking, social distancing, hand-washing, etc.).  There will be no change for students enrolled in In-Person, Rigorous Remote, or Leavenworth Virtual School learning models at this time.  The district will continue to support any quarantine orders as directed by the Leavenworth County Health Department, and directly inform any individual that has been deemed to be a close contact of a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive case.

Following Thanksgiving break, school families will be invited to change their learning model for the second semester (example: change from Rigorous Remote to In-Person learning), which begins Tuesday, January 5, 2021. No action will be required for those families wishing to continue in their currently enrolled learning model.

No events available.
