Getting Started
Your Leavenworth Virtual School experience begins with a series of assessments to determine proper placement. Your child's Facilitator will use the results to help you determine an appropriate course of study, establish academic goals for the year, and plot achievement milestones. An individualized learning plan and clear learning objectives maximize your child's potential.
Leavenworth Virtual Teacher Support
The hallmark of a Leavenworth Virtual School experience is the high level of personal teaching support you and your student(s) receive. Each family is assigned a facilitator. The facilitator develops a personal relationship with each family; will plan and direct the learning program, provide instruction and will monitor progress, and ensure appropriate pacing and mastery of subjects. The Supervising Teacher's role extends beyond daily activities to include live, virtual instruction, parent/teacher conferences, planning field trips, counseling, and overseeing extracurricular activities. Children and parents will be able to call or email the facilitator on a regular basis. The role of a facilitator is to assist in many areas in which a student may need enrichment materials or remedial help. We work to support and assist the educational goals of each family accordingly.
Academic Resources
Edmentum's Calvert Learning curriculum is research- based and is continually evaluated and updated to meet national and Kansas state standards. Calvert's curriculum specialists research offerings from major educational publishers to identify the most effective distance learning materials. Calvert's lessons make learning at home easy by providing a detailed outline for every lesson including a list of materials, step-by-step instructions and a summary of assignments.
Lessons are a blend of online and offline activities designed to engage students and promote critical thinking skills. Online lessons may include reading, instructional videos, game-based tools, technology instruction, live virtual class instruction, and collaborative learning with other students and their teachers. Offline activities include reading novels and textbooks, activity pages, and experiential learning activities such as science labs.
All lessons are available on an easy-to-use online platform with separate parent and student access. The parent view offers all of the same content as the student view along with answer keys and helpful teaching tips right in the lesson, as well as dashboards showing student progress, pacing, and performance. All textbooks, Lesson Manuals, and readers needed for a full year of instruction are included with each course.
