One-Year Transition Plan for Facilities Improvements

What an exciting time in Leavenworth education! The District is on the verge of greatness and is eager to move forward with updated facilities and expanded opportunities for students. Thank you for supporting the recent bond issue!

At the December 17, 2008 meeting of the Board of Education, the following “One-Year Transition Plan for Facilities Improvements” for the 2009-2010 school year was accepted.

The intent of this plan is to minimize the disruption to students as much as possible. Highlights of the plan:
*Students are the number one priority of this plan.
*The accelerated pace of the renovation/construction will be cost effective to Leavenworth taxpayers.
*The plan minimizes the disruption to students and staff for only one year versus the two/three years originally publicized.
*Anthony and David Brewer Elementary School must be vacated in order to complete the project timeline.
*A common curriculum will be utilized across all elementary schools (Direct Instruction and Success for All will be used to support instruction, not as the main curriculum).

This process will support the entire district, by providing modern, safe, and comparable schools for each child in Leavenworth. Click here to view the Power Point presentation that was presented to the Board of Education regarding this issue.

New in-district transfers will only be approved for the 2009-2010 school year for families with Pre K - 4th grade students who, through the plan, would be assigned to separate buildings.

Busing:
Busing is a significant issue that is currently being discussed for this transition period. Parents will be notified as transportation plans are finalized.

Thank you for your cooperation in reaching an end result that supports all students in Leavenworth! We will continue to keep you informed as the plan progresses.
