Leavenworth Student One of Two Serving on State Selection Committee

LHS junior Kaity Schwartz recently served on the selection committee for Kansas Teacher of the Year. She is pictured here with Karla Denny (left), Director, Communications and Recognition Programs of the Kansas Department of Education, and Sherry Bukovatz (right), Administrative Specialist for the Kansas Teacher of the Year Program. Kaity is one of two high school students who served on the committee. The 42-member committee was made up of representatives from the Kansas State School Board, the Kansas legislature, post- secondary institutions from across the state, as well as executives from several businesses and organizations that contribute monetarily to the program.

Kaity spent her day off on Friday, Oct. 17 viewing and rating videos of the 8 finalists for the award. The name of the winner will be announced in November.
