Jim Sloan has been a Leavenworth area resident for most of his life. He is a graduate of Pleasant Ridge High School located in Leavenworth County. He attended college at Emporia State University where he received two Bachelor of Science degrees in the fields of Social Science and Education.  He also completed his Master's Degree in the Art of School Leadership at Baker University.  He has previously been employed by the Eudora, Lyndon, McLouth, and Pleasant Ridge school districts as well as Kansas City Kansas Community College as an administrator, teacher and/or coach. He has been an employee of the Leavenworth district since 2002 and is currently teaching Psychology, Sociology, and Geography at Leavenworth High School. His wife, Amy, is a Leavenworth High School graduate and is also a current employee in the Leavenworth School District.  They have three children.
