Leavenworth USD #453 is committed to fulfilling the mission of ensuring high levels of learning for our students through a process of continuous school improvement and a focus on improving teaching and learning. This is accomplished by addressing high leverage initiatives supported through professional development. The district’s vision of becoming a caring and professional community of learners united in purpose, working in collaborative teams, with a personal commitment to the academic success and well-being of all students is not just a platitude; it is a goal that drives our decision-making and maintains our focus improving the academic and social development of our students. In order to accomplish our mission, Leavenworth Schools is utilizing a process developed from the work of Dr. Jim Knight which is known as the Impact Schools Process. This process is driven through a partnership between teachers, school staff, administrators and the school community and derives focus from four broad areas of improvement. The areas are Curriculum & Instruction, a System of Interventions, Positive Behavior Supports, and increased Student Engagement. Additionally, this work helps our schools to focus on student learning and become the type of school we want for our children. This framework resides inside the larger accountability system designed by federal legislators and implemented by the Kansas State Department of Education.
