Board of Education Names Next Superintendent

During a Special Meeting of the Leavenworth Board of Education last evening, the board voted 7-0 to extend an offer to Mike Roth to serve as Superintendent of Schools for the 2014-15 school year. Mr. Roth currently serves as the District Superintendent of the Clearwater School District (USD 264), a position he has held since 2006.

Public Hearing - Proposed Closure of West Intermediate School

The Leavenworth Board of Education will host a public hearing Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. to hear from patrons concerning the proposed closure of West Intermediate School for the 2014-2015 school year. The hearing will take place at the Board of Education Office, 200 N. 4th Street, Leavenworth, KS 66048.

Leavenworth Public Schools Education Foundation Annual Breakfast

The Leavenworth Public Schools Education Foundation's 13th Annual Foundation Breakfast will proceed as originally scheduled. The event takes place on Tuesday, March 4, in the Leavenworth High School Gymnasium and begins at 7:00 a.m

The keynote speaker is Mr. Jeff Baxter, LHS English Arts Teacher / 2014 Kansas Teacher of the Year.

Attendees should park in the north and west lots, and enter through the north and west doors to the gym.

Resolution to Pursue Dissolution of the Leavenworth County Special Education Cooperative

During a Special Meeting of the Leavenworth Board of Education on Wednesday, February 27, 2014, a resolution was passed expressing USD 453’s intent to pursue dissolution of the Leavenworth County Special Education Cooperative. Each of the other participating districts in the Cooperative (Easton, Fort Leavenworth, Lansing, Basehor-Linwood, and Tonganoxie) has passed similar resolutions. Dissolution of the Cooperative must still receive approval from the State Board of Education. If approved by the State Board of Education, each school district belonging to the COOP will be responsible for managing its own special education programming, beginning July 1, 2014.
