"The Picture of Success" - Thirty-first Annual Leavenworth High School Academic Banquet

The Leavenworth High School Academic Banquet recognizes the top 2.5% of freshmen, top 5% of sophomores, top 10% of juniors, and the top 15% of seniors for their academic achievement. This year’s Academic Banquet was held on April 24, 2017, under the theme of “The Picture of Success.”

Students receive an academic letter and pin (the first time, then a bar, thereafter), and a certificate of achievement, presented this year by Dr. Mike Roth, superintendent of schools. They are also recognized and celebrated by the Leavenworth Board of Education and district administration.

LHS Interact Club to Host Earth Day Celebration

Interact Club of Leavenworth High School is hosting an Earth Day celebration event on Saturday, April, 22nd from 2-4 p.m in the LHS cafeteria.

Our beautiful earth deserves more care! This Earth Day, everyone can celebrate together! Come out with friends and family to learn from several professionals in the area about hazards, conservation, etc! There will be fun activities for kids, including a planting and coloring/activity station, as well as interactive presentations by different community organizations! The information presented has both students and children in mind.

More activities that were not listed will be available. BUT! One thing that cannot get passed without being mentioned is the PLANT AUCTION! Creative, potted plants made from the hands of Leavenworth High School will be sold in a silent auction. Please come support Earth Day as well as our student/faculty efforts!

Teacher of the Year Representatives Announced

The district announced its representatives for the 2018 Kansas Teacher of the Year program during a surprise visit to their respective schools.

The Elementary Teacher of the Year is Caitlan Johnston, fifth grade teacher at Henry Leavenworth Elementary School. USD 453’s Secondary Teacher of the Year is Justin Bode, science teacher at Leavenworth High School.

The calendar for the 2017-2018 school year was approved by the Board of Education at their meeting on Wednesday, March 15.

Spring 2017 Parent-Teacher Conferences

Conferences for all schools will be held February 16, 2017 from 12:30—3:30 p.m. and 4:30—9:30 p.m. There will be no school for students February 15-20.

As a reminder, Spring Break for students begins Friday, March 17, and runs through March 26. Classes will resume on Monday, March 27, 2017.

Due to inclement weather forecast for Friday, January 13, there will be no school for students or staff. This includes 12 month employees. The Horizon Kids Before and After School program will also be closed.

Spring Break Schedule Revision

Spring Break for students will start one day earlier for students - with No School on Friday, March 17. This leads in to a week off from school, with students returning on Monday, March 27. This adjustment was necessary for the district to be in compliance with our negotiated agreement - and end of quarter work day requirements.

Our apologies for any inconvenience, but we wanted to communicate that change now so that alternative arrangements can be made.
