On Sunday, September 11, district finalists were recognized during a ceremony in Topeka for the KSDE Region 2 2017 Kansas Teacher of the Year award. This year, 103 educators across the state were nominated for the distinction honoring teaching excellence in elementary and secondary classrooms. USD 453’s elementary teacher of the year, Patty Nicholson – Henry Leavenworth, and secondary teacher of the year, Emily Reed – Richard Warren Middle School, were in attendance and joined by friends and family for the recognition luncheon.
Olympic marathon runner, Amy (Hastings) Cragg, who finished ninth in the 2016 Rio Olympics paid a recent visit to Leavenworth High School, where she graduated from in 2002.
The district will observe Late Start Days for staff professional development on the following dates: September 14, October 12, November 9, December 14, January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12. Leavenworth High School and Warren Middle School hours will be 9:25 a.m. - 2:55 p.m. Elementary School hours will be 9:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. Students wishing to eat breakfast on late start days should arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the school day.
